Observed versus modelled u,g,r,i,z-band photometry of local galaxies - Evaluation of model performance

Compare prediction with observed galaxy populations using color planes, as well as predicted stellar mass and luminosity weighted ages and metallicities, sSFR, ML ratios and total extinctions with literature values from studies based on spectroscopy. Some models occupy space on color-color diagram where no galaxies are observed. Preferred model can constrain SFH, metallicity and dust content over a large part of the parameter space with ugriz photometry. But strong local degeneracies are present due to overlap of models with high and low extinction in certain parts of color space.

Refractory metal nuggets -- formation of the first condensates in the solar nebula

Low pressure, high temp gaseous "infall" atmosphere around the inner proto-sun nebula: accretional flow gas pressures create refractory metal nuggets (RMNs), sub micron-sized; precursors to calcium aluminum inclusions (CAIs). Conditions conducive to RMN/CAI formation over 80k yr timescale. These conditions may be observable around other protostellar systems. Growth time of RMN dependent on timescale of accretion event.
