Letter: present observational evidence of a strong correlation between the slope of the IMF and central velocity dispersion for a comprehensive population of ETGs in the nearby (z<0.1) universe.  From SDSS spectra, stacked.  Results relevant for sigma > 150 km/s.  Gamma = 3.8 log sigma200 + 1.37 (more massive the halo, higher the Gamma, the IMF slope).

Model FIR SED fitting technique joining a modified, single dust temperature greybody, representing the reprocessed starburst emission in the whole galaxy, to a mid-IR power law, which approximates hot-dust emission from AGN heating or clumpy, hot star bursting regions.  Can be used to measure IR luminosities, dust temperatures, and dust masses with 3 to 1-+ FIR photometric measurements.  Comparative study highlights the impact of SED fitting assumptions on the measurement of physical properties such as IR luminosity (and IR-based SFR), dust temperature and dust mass, for both local and high-redshift galaxies.

Major (1:1) and minor (1:10) mergers of pure bulges (+ embedded in DM haloes): violent relaxation and stripping leads to size evolution and a change of the DM fraction within the observable radius.
