Day 129

Monday.  Physically tired because of yesterday's running.  Maybe I should go back to bed.

A compact degenerate primary-star progenitor of SN 2011fe

Constrain SNIa primary's initial radius from: the diffusive luminosity from the exploding primary (i.e., as the primary expands, the luminosity from the initial shock degrades). Use inferred Ni mass from X-ray and non-detection limit [why non-detection?  isn't the initial curve what's important?] of a nearby SNIa to infer R_p<0.02 Rsun, and the effective temperature < few 1e5 K; rules out hydrogen burning main sequence stars and giants, He-burning and C-burning main sequence.  By process of elimination, find the only degeneracy-supported compact stars--WDs and neutron stars--are viable as primary star of SN 2011 fe.  With a few caveats, also restrict the companion (secondary) star radius to R_c < 0.1 Rsun, excluding Roche-Lobe overflowing red giant and main-sequence companions to high significance.

* was there a companion star at all?
